The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has landed in Ryde this morning (Saturday) in response to a medical emergency in the town.
At just before 09:15, the distinctive green and yellow helicopter touched down at Simeon Street Recreation Ground.
The flying medics – an all female crew today consisting of 2 doctors and a paramedic – have walked the short journey to nearby Park Road, where paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are tending to a poorly patient.
UPDATE @ 10:20 – The air ambulance has taken off from Simeon Street and has flown to St Mary’s Hospital helipad in Newport, where the medics have occupied the patient.

didn’t know the sex of the paramedics was so important, its what they do that matters, daft old world these days…
“The air ambulance has taken off from Simeon Street and has flown to St Mary’s Hospital helipad in Newport, where the medics have occupied the patient.”
What the heck is “occupied the patient”?
Need exorcism specialist, not a female one just in case! 😉
Why comment on the sex of the crew?? Very strange thing to say in the 21st century.
Ooh how patronising can this report be? So perhaps we should not females flying fighter jets either! just hope if you have a problem you don’t need their services anytime soon!
It’s in keeping with the person saying it apparently who isn’t a very nice person I’m told.
Why does it matter what sex the crew and medics are? Um I thought we were in the 21st century not the middle ages. Oh and BTW I hope the patient recovers well….you know with all those female doctors and nurses tending to them
All female crew, oh no!! It’ll be because of the weekend can’t get the staff!! How bloody rude. What does the sex of the crew have to do with this? Never say all male staff do they? Is the expectation lower, are we to be in surprise? or admiration? They have trained the same as their male colleagues and probably while trying to do the school run as well! But that’s all in a days work for them.
Get a grip island echo- drag yourself into the 21st century please. Have some respect for these highly skilled individuals just doing their job!!
Your just as bad suggesting the ladies do a school run, and males don’t.
Grip and drag yourself.
That’s because they do, I also have a medical background and did the school run whilst training and working all at the same time. I have huge admiration for anyone doing this just was more prevalent in our profession amongst my colleagues. You can be quiet now please, what do you do again?!
Probably nothing as intelligent I’m sure!
If it was an all black crew, would that be mentioned.
