UPDATED: A young girl has sustained facial injuries after being attacked by a dog in Cowes yesterday evening (Sunday).
The horrific incident, which saw a Staffordshire Bull Terrier bite the girl’s face, is said to have taken place outside the Painter’s Arms pub on Cross Street at around 19:00.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were called to the scene close to the High Street and rushed the child – thought to be around 7-years-old – to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport. She has now been transferred to a mainland hospital and is facing potential plastic surgery.
It remains unclear as to what action, if any, is being taken against the dog and it’s local owners.
UPDATE @ 22:30 – The youngster has undergone surgery today, which is said to have been a success. She is now recovering.
UPDATE THURSDAY – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed they are investigating Sunday’s incident.
