Residents are being invited to have their say on ambitious plans to replace The Bay CE School’s existing buildings with a brand new purpose-built campus, with a public information event being held tomorrow (Tuesday).
A public information event is being held at The Bay CE School’s Secondary Site from 15:00 until 19:00 on Tuesday 21st July, giving residents the opportunity to learn more about the proposals, which are backed by the Department for Education and the Isle of Wight Council.
The plans represent the next stage in the long-term transformation of the former Sandown High School site. In November 2022, Island Echo reported how the school’s redundant south block was demolished over a weekend, alongside other ageing buildings, as part of wider plans to modernise the estate and pave the way for future redevelopment.
Now, the school has unveiled proposals to replace its remaining existing buildings with a purpose-built facility designed to transform the learning experience while maintaining current pupil numbers and its sporting, academic and wellbeing focus.
According to information released by the school, the redevelopment is intended to create more than just a new school building. The Isle of Wight Council’s vision is for the site to become “a vibrant, inclusive, and future-ready community hub” serving both pupils and the wider community.
The estate vision states:
“The estate vision, set out by the Isle of Wight Council, is for the school to evolve into a vibrant, inclusive, and future-ready community hub that serves not only the educational needs of students, but also becomes a cornerstone of support, opportunity, and pride for the wider community.”
The plans include flexible teaching spaces that can adapt to future educational needs, a strong focus on student and staff wellbeing, and highly energy-efficient, digitally connected buildings designed with sustainability in mind.
