Around 250 people attended this year’s Independent Living Show despite soaring temperatures, with more than 40 exhibitors coming together to showcase the wide range of support available to help Islanders live independently.
Held at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, the event connected visitors with organisations offering advice on independent living, home safety, home improvements, wellbeing, food services and a host of other topics.
Organised by Right at Home Isle of Wight and now in its 4th year, the Independent Living Show has become a regular fixture in the community calendar, with organisers reporting overwhelmingly positive feedback from both visitors and exhibitors.
Although the hot weather made conditions inside the marquees challenging at times, stallholders continued to welcome guests throughout the day, providing information, guidance and practical support.
The High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight was among those in attendance, while local musician John from Totland Sky entertained visitors with banjo performances.
As previously reported by Island Echo, The Independent Living Show was launched to bring together businesses, charities and community organisations under one roof, making it easier for Islanders and their families to access information about living safely, happily and independently at home. This year’s event continued that aim, with dozens of organisations offering advice and showcasing services designed to support independent living.
One attendee praised the event, saying:
“It was a real privilege to be part of the event – thank you for the opportunity.
“I thought you did an incredible job of organising and running it all – I really hope it was a success for everyone concerned. My 92-year-old Mum really enjoyed it!”
Following another successful year, organisers say the growing popularity of the event demonstrates the continuing demand for a single place where Islanders can discover the services and support available to help them remain independent.
