Wightlink Cycle Race Team members travelled to Goodwood last week (Tuesday 10th June) to compete in the RCR Fatcreations Goodwood Races 4-Up TTT.
The Mixed category quartet, comprised of Nick Earley, Jack Grundy, Charis Jones and Richard Nembhard took a well-deserved 3rd place after finishing in a time of 52.38 over 10 laps of the circuit (23 miles). The ‘A’ Team – Kev Chant, Ewan Cook, Henry Farrell and Oli Nolan – were up against some of the top teams in the South and were seeded 21st out of 45 teams.
The lads were up to the challenge and powered home in a phenomenal time of 47.55 at an average speed of almost 30mph over the 10 laps of the circuit (23 miles) to take Overall 8th place.
Team Manager, Jerry Cooper, says:
“What a fantastic night of racing. The teams pulled out great results despite having little time to practice together before the race and getting on the podium in the Mixed event was the icing on the cake”
Junior rider, MacKenzie Cook was also in action at the weekend competing in #3 of the Southern Enduro at Pippingford.
With his GCSEs taking priority this year, Mack’s training has had to take a back seat and he knew the race wouldn’t be one of his best but even so he didn’t want to miss the chance to ride. The trails were classic Pippingford – loamy in some spots, loose and sketchy in others, with a good mix of fast flow and tight tech.
Mack says:
“The rain earlier in the week meant traction was unpredictable in places and not ideal when you’ve been off the bike more than on it. My lines felt messy in a few stages. Braking too much in the wrong spots, taking corners a bit too cautiously. A few small mistakes added up across the stages, and by the time the results came through, I finished 19th. Not quite where I wanted to be but it felt great to be back on the trails”.
Thanks go out to team sponsors Wightlink IOW Ferries, Island Renewables, Wight Mountain, Kreative Studios and Rapanui for their continued support.
Well done and do us motorists a favour,
stay in Goodwood, island Roads are not ideal
for cyclists.
There are hardly any cycle lanes on the Isle of Wight
Grow up.
Another Numpty who doesn’t like to hear the
truth.
On your bike!
I was scrolling down the page and suddenly came to a stop. Why, you may ask. Well take a look at what they are wearing, especially around their nether regions. They are certainly game for a laugh.
