Cyclists representing the Isle of Wight team Wightlink CRT have enjoyed another successful week of racing, with strong performances on both the road and downhill circuit.
At the annual RCR x Alta Via Goodwood Handicap on 14th July, more than 90 riders across several categories lined up alongside former professional cyclists Ed Clancy and Alex Dowsett.
Ewan Cook, starting in the 4th Category group, capitalised on his recent form by launching an early solo attack and riding clear for 3 laps before being reeled in by the chasing 3rd Category group.
Once caught, Ewan linked up with teammate Jack Davies as the pair worked together in the bunch during the fast-paced race, which was made more demanding by a strong headwind along the back straight.
As the Elite riders increased the pace heading towards the final chicane, both Islanders dug deep to stay with the main bunch to the finish, with Ewan taking the honour of being the highest-placed 4th Category rider.
Reflecting on his performance, Ewan, who is more accustomed to mountain bike racing, said:
“It was a huge learning curve but I really enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to the gravel race at Goodwood and doing more circuit races with the team before the end of the season and hope to get my 3rd Cat licence.”

Meanwhile, on 18th July, teammate Sonny Shuttleworth travelled to the Forest of Dean for the Little Fodders Downhill Race, finishing an impressive 5th in the Intermediate category.
Racing in temperatures exceeding 30C, Sonny tackled a dry and dusty course featuring technical off-camber corners and tight hairpin bends, where confident bike handling proved crucial.
Despite the challenging conditions, he maintained a consistent pace throughout the event to secure a top-5 finish against a competitive field.
Sonny is now looking ahead to the next round of the series in October.
