The Bay CE Primary and Secondary sites have worked with Lake and Sandown town councils, and local churches, to fund food hampers for local families this Summer.
Secondary site headteacher, Emma Bowden, said:
“Thanks to all involved in ensuring local families get timely support during the summer break.”

Primary head of school, Nina Lawrence, added:
“We’ve enjoyed working with local shops to ensure the hampers are full of variety to support our families throughout the summer break.”
The initiative complements other Bay projects, such as Breakfast Club and support to the Bay Foodbank, based at Lake Methodist Church.
Sandown Mayor Alex Lightfoot said:
“We are very mindful of cost of living pressures and, along with subsidised activities for families, we hope this initiative helps those that need help when they need it.
Article continues below this advertisement “The local parish and town councils are looking to support similar initiatives later in the year, as well as make budgetary provision for future years if appropriate.”
Lake’s Chair Paul Brading concluded:
“Working together for the benefit of the local youth and community, makes our limited resources stretch further and reach a greater number of families at this challenging time.”
Great idea but it does make one wonder how many of
these families spend thousands of pounds on cigarettes,
booze scratchcards and tatts and then expect charity.
We seem to be living in a society that expects handouts
whatever happened to if you haven’t got it, you haven’t got it.
In the old days we had to make do.
I agree with you completely if you can’t feed them don’t breed them.
Too many people drop their drawers knowing it is a life of
luxury.
Free homes, free living expenses and in some cases even a
free vehicle.
The country cannot afford to keep paying for such persons
it didn’t work like that in the old days.
Britain is a soft touch.
No you hang on a high %of the parents at The Bay work both of them to pay their bills,the cost of living on The island is as high as London our wages are usually in or below minimum wage!…we didn’t cause the cost of living inflation crisis Men in designer suits and little brains apart from a penchant for money, flogging arms and selling oil at inflated prices caused that,you look back with your rose tinted glasses at “back in the day”or get your arse out into the real world spend a day with 2036 parents juggling bills,food and mortgages…that big brush you use would soon lose it’s bristles!.

Much cheaper parking charges
No congestion charges
No ULEZ charges
No permit parking charges
Cheaper restaurants etc etc

You need to get a brain. PROPORTIONATELY the cost of living is as high because the wages here are significantly LOWER here. We don’t have London Weighting for a start but food, water and energy all cost the same.
As for people who have children, if only we all had your crystal ball at conception that our husbands wouldn’t die, run off with the next door neighbour or turn out to be poor breadwinners because of the lack of employment choice/training/diversification here. Gone are the days when farming, shipbuilding, marine engineering and of course tourism with its vast array of hotels employed the masses. We now have a gig economy of Dominos 20 hours a week, ditto Maccy Ds and dozens and dozens of blokes tearing around on bikes trying to earn thruppence a delivery just to feed their families.
In ‘the old days’ of ‘making do’, yes, we were homeless every time the rent wasn’t paid, as a child I slept in railway/bus stations, and went with food completely for days at a time. ‘Charity’, or child benefit was reserved for ‘families, ie, 2 parents. Single parents got nothing before 1972 unless they could prove they were widowed. My father was simply ‘missing’ so we got nothing.
I’m really really glad that children no longer have to endure what I did whatever the bloody reason. NO ONE chooses no food and no home you sanctimonious twat.
