Whitepit Lane in Newport has been closed from its junction with St Johns Road for a distance of 91 metres in a westerly direction (one-way section).

The diversion will affect these streets: St Johns Road, St Johns Place, Trafalgar Road, New Street, Pyle Street, High Street, Coppins Bridge, Medina Way, Snooks Hill, St Georges Way, Furrlongs, St Georges Approach, Medina Avenue, Carisbrooke Road, Cedar Hill & Whitepit Lane
Diversion route(s) will be signed at the time of closure. Reasonable facilities will be provided to allow access to adjacent premises while the road is closed.
From 09:30 hours on 25th August 2020, for a maximum period of five days or until the works are complete, whichever is sooner.
Southern Vectis bus route 38 has been put on diversion as a result.
Buses to divert straight down Carisbrooke High St to Coppins Bridge, St George’s Way & Church Litten until further notice.
Bus stops from Cedar Hill to Test Centre cannot be served.
Routes 6, 7, 12 and 38 will suffer some delays due to through traffic using Carisbrooke Road and Newport High Street.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY @ 10:10 – Whitepit Lane has now reopened to traffic. Works are now complete and buses have returned to their normal line of route.

Water companies do not fit larger pipes from the reservoir to cope every time a large housing estate is built, but instead increase the pressure to cope with huge extra demand, so existing pipes are far more liable to burst.
Will be far more disruption when such is built and filled to capacity.
