“We are still in so much shock at the news and cannot believe he will no longer be sat on the bench with his magic sponge. Or more likely telling Adam Ian Windy Millar to run faster.
“When Steve 1st moved to the Island, he was an avid Newport supporter, following them weekly. He came to Camp Rd to watch his pal referee and that was it. From supporter to linesman, a relationship flourished where each was dependent on the other.
“He ran the line; he washed the kit; he helped the managers; he took players to away games; he took players to home games when the previous night’s celebrations had been a little lively; he helped with the club social side even rustling up a curry now and again.
“It is well known that grassroots cannot function without volunteers, and in Steve, we had way more than one pair of hands.”

“When we received this sad news, it stopped me in my tracks. So shocked and saddened knowing that us as a club have lost a member that put so much into the club. As the saying goes you don’t know what you have lost until it’s gone.
“It made me think about all the jobs Steve done around the club. The support he gave us boys in every game. The help running the line. The volunteering work around the club over the many years. And this doesn’t include any other community stuff Steve done. A huge huge loss to us. A friend and a true gent.
“We thank you, Steve, for the many hrs you gave helping our club that you loved. It’s people like you that keep clubs running. My thoughts go to his family at this hard time, and we hope you all know how important he was to us all.
