A popular Isle of Wight camping and caravan park is looking to sell alcohol at its shop.
The owners of Stoats Farm, on Weston Lane, in Totland are applying to the Isle of Wight Council for an alcohol licence.
It means they can then sell alcohol at its shop to drink on the campsite or take it away with them.
If successful, the licence would mean it can sell booze from 07:00 to 22:00, 7 days a week, should they wish to.
To protect the public, the farm says all alcohol sales would require ID for proof of age and the booze would be placed on higher shelves and away from items sold to children.
To prevent public nuisance, the farm says it would refuse alcohol sales to anyone deemed to be too drunk or known street drinkers and the existing campsite rules would still be in place to ensure noise is kept to a minimum.
It is hoped the licence can come into effect from 1st November.
You can view the licensing application, 23/01531/LAPNEW, on the Isle of Wight Council’s planning register. Comments can be submitted until 9th November.

The use of the word “booze” implies drinking to excess, so this article is suggesting that people cannot enjoy alcohol without getting drunk, which is a highly judgemental and frankly stupid perspective. The vast majority can enjoy a drink without having to get drunk and only a small minority drink to excess and cause problems, such as the leader of our council Phil Jordan who is best known for being a drink driver.
All drink drivers should be banged up.
Well we drink alcohol in our culture Hamad sorry to disappoint you.
The story says To prevent public nuisance, the farm says it would refuse alcohol sales to anyone deemed to be too drunk or known street drinkers.
Are they going to breath test people who have dyslexia or a speech impediment.?
How many street drinkers are there in the West Wight.?
I could go in there and buy a bottle of bubbly and then drink it whilst walking home to Totland. Am I now a street drinker.?
It’s going to cause problems, beer cans and broken bottles down Moons Hill or Weston Lane.
It would be easier for them to not sell alcohol.
Bit of a kick in the teeth for The Highdown pub sat directly across the road, surely selling booze on the Stoats Farm campsite will reduce the amount of campers going to the pub.
I would have hoped the council would be doing everything they can to try and keep local pubs open not promoting direct competition with the campsite acting like a cheap off licence.
The Highdown pub is a doss hole, poor hygiene, watery beer, it’s always full of regulars who can’t step away from a drink. People are very surprised that it remains open.
If a stranger walks in there then it’s a like the American Werewolf in London scene inside The Slaughtered Lamb pub where they miss the dart board, the music stops and they all turn to stare.
The island would be better without alcohol and alcoholic establishments.
All establishments frequented by “locals” are like the same scene from American Werewolf in London. Their brains operate slowly and struggle to cope with novelty.
All establishments frequented by you lot stink of curry and should come with a health and safety warning.
Oh dear Hamad moved over here and don’t like the culture, best not say the answer we all want to shout out.
Sounds like a great place so glad you don’t drink there, I’m headed off there this weekend to check it out 🙂
Bit racist to Hamad there pub lover.?
This is why drinking should be banned as people don’t do it responsibly.
If you are going to the Highdown pub, stay on the road, keep clear of the downs, and don’t ask what the star is on the wall, you’ll make the player miss the board..
Full moon on Saturday night so I would recommend avoiding it completely.
