Patients and families are being invited to recognise outstanding NHS staff as voting opens for this year’s People’s Choice Award.
Staff at Isle of Wight NHS Trust have been recognised through an award that gives patients and families the chance to say thank you.
More than 50 nominations were submitted for this year’s Delivering Excellence Awards in the People’s Choice category, each highlighting exceptional care, kindness and professionalism across the Trust.
A judging panel has now drawn up a shortlist, with members of the public invited to vote for their winner.
Among those nominated is Dr Laura Bohane, from the Paediatric Diabetes Team, who has been praised for her dedication, compassion and leadership in supporting children and families.
One parent representative said Dr Bohane “actively listens to parent voices” and ensures families are treated as equal partners, adding that she helps children understand their condition “without fear or overwhelm”.
Karolina Adamski, a Student Nurse Apprentice with the Clinical Education Team, has also been recognised for her “extraordinary compassion” and personal approach to patient care.
She has been commended for supporting vulnerable patients, including those with dementia and special needs, and for going above and beyond by bringing in items such as sensory equipment, food and comfort items for those without visitors.
David Turner, Lead Practice Development Nurse for Urgent and Emergency Care, has been described as a “hidden hero” who mentors and supports hundreds of staff across the hospital.
His nomination highlights how his work strengthens patient safety and care standards, with his dedication often extending beyond contracted hours.
Mary Silos, a Clinical Practice Educator in Urgent and Emergency Care, has been recognised for her role in shaping standards and supporting staff development, as well as stepping onto the frontline during busy periods to assist colleagues and patients directly.
They said staff treated their husband with dignity and respect, kept the family informed throughout, and created an environment where they felt “like family” during a difficult time.
The People’s Choice Award forms part of the Trust’s annual Delivering Excellence Awards, celebrating the work of staff across all services.
Voting is now open and will close on Friday 8th May 2026, with the winner set to be announced at a ceremony on Tuesday 16th June 2026.
Members of the public can read the full nominations and cast their vote via the online form.

I would vote for one, but since the pandemic many of them
are still shirking from home.
One would assume you are also including Doctors, Nurses, Surgeons, Radiographers, Pediatricians, Cleaners, Canteen Staff, Ambulance Drivers etc etc in your comment?
