No Isle of Wight Wessex League side has won since 12th November – all 3 are in action this evening (Tuesday).
In the only Wessex League fixture on the Island, in Division 1, East Cowes Vics take on 15th-placed Fawley at Beatrice Avenue. The game kicks off at 19:45.
Vics have failed to record a single victory in 17 games. Their last win came back in August when they beat bottom club Fleet Spurs 0-2.
The East Cowes side have been unfortunate in their last 2 games, suffering defeats after taking an early lead.
Will their luck change this evening?
Manager Richie Woodburn says:
“We really need some points after a poor run of results of late. So, midweek home games against sides just above us in the league become even more important and present us with our best opportunity to secure a much-needed morale-boosting win and close the gap on the teams above.”
Also in Division 1, 5th-placed Newport travel to Southampton to face 13th-placed Millbrook. Kick-off is at 19:30.
The Port have failed to win in 3 games and score in their last 2.
Manager Steve Brougham has written (in his programme notes):
“Petersfield Town brought our 9 wins on the bounce to a crushing end with their 2-1 defeat of us 2 weeks ago. This was followed b a 0-0 draw against bottom club Amesbury Town last Saturday.
“Added together, [this] might give the impression that we are slipping, bit don’t dismay. All clubs go through phases like this.
“Newport are no different, and we will bounce back to our old ways as swiftly as we succumbed over the past 2 weeks.
“Our consistency shall return, and the team spirit is still high.”
The Yachtsmen travel to Portsmouth to take on 11th-placed Baffins Milton Rovers in the Wessex Premier. Kick-off is at 19:30.
Cowes are currently on an 8-game winless run. They recorded their last victory on 22nd September when they beat Rayners Lane 1-2 in the FA Vase.
On Saturday, the Yachtsmen achieved a creditable goalless draw away to 3rd-placed Bemerton Heath Harlequins.
Cowes assistant manager Andy Brown says:
“This game won’t be easy. Baffins are always a strong outfit and were competing for promotion all last season. Their recent results were to beat Pagham and draw with Bemerton.
“We, however, should also take confidence, having put in another great team performance at Bemerton on Saturday. We will go there looking to upset the form book and hopefully bring all 3 points home this time, which the lads deserve based on recent performances.
“However, obviously, this has to be earned!”
