The Yachtsmen have suffered the first and only Wessex League defeat of an Isle of Wight side in the season to date away to AFC Portchester. Ryan Pennery put the home side in the lead in the 6th minute by converting a corner at the back post (1-0). Pennery added a 2nd for Portchester in the 26th minute after capitalising on a mix up between goalkeeper Hatt and captain Fin Phillips to steal the ball and lob Hatt from 25 yards (2-0). Connor Duffin added a 3rd for the home side 5 minutes from half time after stealing the ball from Ed Hatt in an aerial challenge (3-0). Half time: AFC Portchester 3-0 Cowes Sports Portchester got their 4th goal 2 minutes into the 2nd half through a Connor Duffin volley (4-0). The home side’s 5th came on the hour mark with Marley Ridge getting on to the score sheet (5-0). George Barker added to the misery for the Yachtsmen with a 6th goal 10 minutes from full time (6-0). Jake Wright scored a consolation goal for Cowes with an 82nd-minute penalty after substitute Jimmy Wykes had been brought down in the penalty area (6-1). An 85th-minute goal from Portchester’s Harvey Hughes rubbed further salt into the Yachtsmen’s wounds before the final whistle (7-1).
