A woman has seemingly taken a detour on a night out and has ended up on the roof of Poundland tonight (Saturday).
It is understood that emergency services were first alerted to the woman in distress at around 23:00.
The call prompted the response of 2 pumps from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, as well as the Aerial Ladder Platform.
The ALP has remained stationary throughout the operation, with firefighters able to bring the woman down safely using extension ladders.
Paramedics and police are also on scene at the incident, which has taken place in the heart of Newport town.
Lugely Street was closed in both directions for a short time however is now back open.
How does one end up on a roof via a detour!
Is there a ladder there!
Of course it is car on the roof island, now it’s
persons on roofs island.
Islandwide CCTV would stop such incidents from
happening, better still facial recognition.
Make life easier for Emergency services who have
better things to do.
Let technology do the donkey work and let Emergency
services attend to incidents.
Let me guess speed humps everywhere would have stopped her getting up there

I have walked passed Poundland thousands of times
I have never detoured to the roof though.
They had CCTV in the town at one time, but then did away with it !!.
They don’t help the cause.
Police woman told us, after we had a spate of anti social behaviour in our area, CCTV wasn’t much good to them as they didn’t have time to look through it.
All those services for one woman stuck on a roof.

Looks like one big jolly.
So in other words, attention seeking woman trespassing, should have been arrested. Let face it, it is attention seeking and she should be made to pay for all of the services that where used.
