The Isle of Wight Steam Railway will step back in time next month as its popular 1940s Experience returns to Havenstreet for a weekend packed with vintage entertainment, steam trains and wartime nostalgia.
Taking place on 4th and 5th July, visitors can immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and spirit of the 1940s, with live music, historic displays and unlimited journeys behind the railway’s magnificent steam locomotives.
This year’s event organisers are encouraging visitors to fully embrace the era by dressing in 1940s-inspired clothing and joining in with the fun.
Whether it’s military uniform, floral dresses, braces and flat caps or simply a touch of vintage style, fancy dress is positively encouraged to help bring the atmosphere of the Home Front to life. For those arriving without an outfit, pop-up traders will be on hand selling period clothing throughout the weekend.
Entertainment will centre around the E.N.S.A stage, where visitors can enjoy performances from returning favourites Andy Eastwood, recreating the music and humour of George Formby, alongside vocalist Amanda Ray.
Guests can wander recreated 1940s street scenes, enjoy wartime-inspired food and refreshments and admire an array of military vehicles as well as a Spitfire display, where visitors are advised to keep an eye on the skies for a possible flypast.
Throughout the weekend, steam trains will operate an extensive timetable, with unlimited travel included in standard tickets. Passengers can sit back in beautifully restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages while enjoying a journey through the Isle of Wight countryside.
Families can take advantage of the event’s Kids Go Free offer, with up to 3 children admitted free with every full-priced adult ticket.
New for 2026 are admission-only tickets, priced at £22 for adults at the Havenstreet booking office or £20 when booked online in advance, with both options including free admission for up to 3 children. Child tickets for those aged 5-17 cost £10.
Havenstreet booking office and station open daily at 09:30 when trains are running.
Those wanting to secure their place are encouraged to book in advance for the best prices. Tickets for the 1940s Experience can be booked online here.
