Organisers of Shanklin Regatta have hailed this year’s event a success after residents and visitors headed to the town’s seafront for a day of traditional seaside entertainment on Saturday.
Small Hope Beach was at the heart of the action, with classic shore sports including sack races, egg-and-spoon races, three-legged races and tug-of-war.
Creativity was also on display during the Alice Webb Cup sand modelling competition, while children aged between 3 and 16 put pen to paper for the regatta’s drawing competition.
Elsewhere, Market Street gave local traders and food vendors the opportunity to welcome those attending throughout the day.
Magician Huxley provided afternoon entertainment before competitors took centre stage for the traditional knobbly knees contest.
As the day moved into the evening, live entertainment came courtesy of The Tuesdaze and MLD Dancers, with Isle of Wight favourites The Hanging Baskets bringing the programme to a close.
This year’s planned fireworks display did not take place, having been cancelled in advance because of the heightened fire risk caused by the tinder-dry weather.
Following Saturday’s event, organisers paid tribute to those who attended and the people who worked behind the scenes to make the regatta possible.
Shanklin Regatta organisers said:
