A car has smashed into a parked vehicle and rolled onto its side in the village of Bonchurch this morning (Monday).
Drama descended on the quiet part of Ventnor at just before 10:55 when a black Skoda Yeti collided with the rear quarter of a parked Mercedes on Bonchurch Village Road.
An elderly female driver has now been assisted from the vehicle – through the boot – by firefighters, but thankfully no serious injuries have been sustained.
Firefighters from Shanklin and Ryde have assisted on scene, with paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service tending to the driver.
Police have closed Bonchurch Village Road in both directions whilst recovery of the vehicle – which is completely on its side – is undertaken.
UPDATED @ 13:34 – The rolled vehicle has now been recovered by Bartletts and police have since reopened the road.

Pretty much every day there is some sort of car smash up on the island and the age of the drivers is not highlighted. About 1 in 30 is attributed to someone over 70 and then “elderly” is headlined and cue the ageist remarks. Most of the car crashes on this island are the result of aggressive, arrogant young men as is the case worldwide.
Spot on Laura. No argument as the statistics prove repeatedly. As with racism, Bigots dont take any notice of the facts. Stand on any corner ant time of day and see who is driving thoughtlessly, too fast for the situation and their ability, at best carelessly and at worst very dangerously. The overwhelming majority will be young men. Mind you, you g women are cat hing up in the aggressive driving stakes!
Fully agree Laura but these cretinous trolls feed on the word elderly in an incident like this whilst totally ignoring the abysmal driving skills of the younger drivers, motor bikers and worse of all cyclists who believe no road rules apply to them.
Every driver should be tested for vision and competence every five years.Not just “elderly” drivers.
Agree. Don’t even need to be in a car. Test eyesight and reaction time every five years. Even younger drivers need glasses.

The problem is the island is full of vehicles clogging
up island roads.
Time for the Council to roll out islandwide permit parking
charges and STOP companies clogging up roads with work vans
and trucks.
START TAXING LARGE VEHICLES MORE
That is what makes roads narrow and blocks drivers
visibility.
