Two persons were rescued by Coastguard teams last night (Monday) after they attempted to climb the cliff at Watcombe Bay, Freshwater.
In an attempt to avoid the incoming tide, the pair began climbing the cliff before getting themselves into an unsafe situation. Having being alerted to the incident, a cliffman from The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team was lowered to stabilise the casualties before they were lowered to the beach below.
Thanks to the assistance of Lymington RNLI, who were diverted from their evenings training, the risk-taking casualties and the cliffman were taken around to Freshwater Bay and put ashore. Amazingly, both escaped without injury.
Furthermore, it is understood a group of friends were also rescued by the lifeboat after tombstoning and surfing at the beach. Two members of the group managed to raise the alarm by swimming to Freshwater.
