Around 150 former pupils and staff came together to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Medina High School at a special reunion in Newport.
Former students and teachers spanning five decades reunited at GG’s Bar in Newport on Saturday 11th July for a celebration marking 50 years since Medina High School first opened its doors in 1976.
The event, organised by Jon Goldsmith, brought together current and former members of staff alongside ex-pupils, including many who were part of the school’s very first year.
Around 150 people attended throughout the evening, catching up with old classmates and teachers while sharing memories from their time at Medina.
Speaking after the event, Jon said:
“It was fantastic to see so many current and former staff and pupils together, including those who were there in Medina’s very first year. Around 150 people came along over the course of the evening and everyone had a great time reconnecting with old friends and teachers.”
Entertainment came from 3 bands, HunnyBz, The Distortions and X-Directory, with some of the musicians themselves former Medina pupils. Ex-student Graham ‘Frankie’ Andre also kept the party going as DJ.
Old photographs were on display throughout the venue, while guests enjoyed a cold buffet and celebrated England’s football victory together.
Jon added:
“It was wonderful to see people looking through the old photographs and sharing memories. The atmosphere was brilliant all night, and we were also pleased to be able to raise money for Mountbatten Isle of Wight and the Huntington’s Disease Association.”
The reunion marked half a century since Medina High School welcomed its first pupils in 1976 and gave generations of former students and staff the chance to celebrate the school’s history together.
