The Gouldings, an Isle of Wight Council-owned and operated care home in Freshwater, has reopened with a fresh new look after a £1.3million investment. The refurbishment offers 23 bright and spacious bedrooms, all having ensuite shower rooms, Wi-Fi, and a welcoming feel. There is also plenty of shared lounge and dining space to spend time with others, as well as some cosy quiet corners to get away from it all. Nestled in the West Wight, The Gouldings has been part of the Freshwater community for almost 50 years, providing essential support for the reablement of people coming out of hospital or facing crisis in the community. The home provides a warm space for people to recover and regain independence, no matter what challenges they face. Within the first 4 weeks of opening, the home has supported more than 25 people from hospital and has begun to see an increase in people coming to the home for respite and carer breaks to give not only themselves a short holiday, but their family and carers a chance to take some time for themselves. Caroline King, the Registered Manager for The Gouldings, has said:
“The refurbishment of the building is the icing on the cake. And very nice icing it is. The cake is the entire team who work together to ensure that everyone who requires our support receives it safely in the way that they want to receive it. “No matter the reason for your stay, we are committed to supporting you in achieving your goals, whatever they may be. “The dedicated team of staff work hard to help people live as independently as possible including support with maintaining coordination, mobility and confidence always working with people and not for them.”
I seriously hope this isn’t a precursor to it moving from Council hands into private ones. Where did the investment money come from, does anyone know?
