Glorious September weather helped make this year’s Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary’s ‘Day At The Races’ the most successful yet.
Nearly 1,500 people descended on the Island’s donkey sanctuary at Wroxall on Sunday to take part in a day of family fun.
It’s the third year the ‘Day At The Races’ has helped raise money for the Donkey Sanctuary, which relies on donations to continue to care for the animals. Sunday’s family day was the most successful, raising £5000 in donations and spending in the Donkey Sanctuary’s shop and café.
Carol Foote, Business Manager at the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary expressed her thanks to everyone involved:
“Thanks go out to the staff and the volunteers who came along and supported and helped, a big thank you to all the staff holders and all the people who offered help and a huge huge thank you to all the people who came along and supported us, just by visiting us, by taking part and by entering into the spirit of things!”
Carol explained what it means to the donkey sanctuary – which needs to raise £550 000 each year just to survive:
“It means that lots of people come along, so we get a lot of exposure, which is great. It means that people will come back in the future, whether it’s just to visit or whether its to come back to our next Day At The Races, and the number of people that come back, the more support we get and it can’t be underestimated how valuable that is.”
