Southern Vectis is holding a special event in Newport later this month, aimed at concessionary bus pass users.
The Isle of Wight bus operator is planning to highlight the importance of concessionary travel – not just to those who use it but also to the local economy.
The Southern Vectis team will be at Newport Bus Station between 10:00 and 14:00 on Tuesday 30th January.
Southern Vectis’ general manager, Richard Tyldsley says:
“We’re looking forward to welcoming those who use concessionary passes, whether they be elderly, disabled or the New Islander cards, to Newport Bus station on Tuesday 30 January.
“We’ll be offering complementary tea and coffee and some special giveaways – and those who wish to can also accompany us on a special ‘one-off’ bus trip to see some of the island’s best sights.
“For many, concessionary bus travel is vital in helping them go about their daily lives. Getting out-and-about to do shopping, go to the doctors, or to enjoy this beautiful isle is a real challenge for elderly and disabled people who don’t have access to their own means of transport. Many tell us their bus passes offer them a real lifeline.
“Our team is interested to find out, first-hand, how our customers have been helped by having easy access to local buses. Concessionary travel is also important to local businesses – providing them with more visitors and customers than they might otherwise have. So, this event is about highlighting the entire package.”
