Southern Water have issued an apology to all affected by yesterday’s 18-inch water main burst on Manners View in Newport.
As previously reported by Island Echo, flood water gushed through commercial premises and down the road shortly after 13:00. The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue were called into action to shift the water, which was several inches deep in places.
Unfortunately, the popular children’s play area ‘JR Zone’ was flooded on the ground floor, however, the business aims to re-open to visitors on Saturday. Other businesses were also affected.
It has been confirmed that around 300 residences were without water last night to allow the repairs to take place, which involved cutting out and replacing a 1.7m section of damaged pipe.
A spokesperson for Southern Water has said:
“We’d like to apologise to all customers affected by yesterday’s burst on the industrial estate in Manner View Road, Newport.
“We’re pleased to say that repairs to the 450mm main were completed at around midnight last night.
“Our clean up crews and support teams are on site today to help and advise all affected customers.
“We’d like to thank Island Roads and the Environment Agency for their help during yesterday’s incident, but most of all the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, who helped us to pump water out of affected units and protected many other buildings from flooding.”
