UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue, Southern Water and Island Roads are attending a flooding incident on Manners View in Newport this afternoon (Tuesday).
A burst water main has led to large volumes of water gushing down the road – several inches deep in places.
2 fire engines, a rescue tender and Incident Support Unit are on scene with firefighters attempting to reduce the risk of flooding to businesses in the area.
The incident began at around 13:00.
Manners View has been closed to traffic in both directions between Buywise and Screwfix.
UPDATE @ 16:20 – A number of children have been evacuated from JR Zone as a result of the incident, which has left the ground floor flooded. No one has been injured in the incident, but it it said that it will take some time for the business to clear the mess.
Around 3,000 litres of water per minute is being pumped away by fire crews according to the incident commander.
A spokesperson for Southern Water has said:
“We’re dealing with a burst water main on an industrial estate on Manner View road in Newport.
“The fire brigade are helping us pump out the affected units and the road is closed.
“We’re really sorry for any inconvenience, no customers are without water and we have a team in the area on hand to provide any help needed.”
