Fire Crews from across the East Wight are in attendance at a commercial property in Sandown this afternoon (Monday).
Crews from Ryde, Newport, Shanklin and Ventnor are on scene at a laundry on East Yar Road.
A total of 3 pumping appliances as well as the Aerial Ladder Platform from Ryde and the Incident Command Unit from Newport are in attendance.
Island Echo has been told that the call came after a callout came that there was a smell of burning inside, however it has been confirmed that no fire has been located with crews now standing down.
The incident has occurred just across the road from Sandown Fire Station but the towns pump is off the run.

Good job they sent 4 appliances to a smell……..
One crew can only do so much!
trucks are mobilised in accordance to risk to the public or crews them selves (may need backup due to complexity of structure)
a heavy attack will stop a fire quickly – in a complex structure more so due to the risk posed to crews.
its safer (FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY) to send 5 trucks to a small fire in a complex structure, than wait for it to grow bigger fire and commit 10 trucks for longer.
Then you’ll have no trucks to cut your fat ass out of your car when some crashes in to you.
They sent so many engines so all the crews could get a call out fee.
Why was Sandowns pump off the run, don’t the islands fire service have a spare?
