Lake Parish Council has secured a £17,000 grant from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to help deliver the next phases of improvement work at New Road.
The funding will support further development of the public amenity, building on investment already made by the Parish Council and work carried out by volunteers from Lake Tidy Team and Men in Sheds in recent months.
Future phases of the New Road project could include new accessible seating, additional planting and shrubbery, a flagpole, small games and possible murals.
The proposals will be subject to further consultation with stakeholders and form part of efforts to promote local facilities and businesses.
Councillor Paul Brading, Chair of Lake Parish Council, has said:
“This is very much a part of Lake’s commitment to the Bay Place Plan, and thanks to Laura Cansdale and our local volunteers, we’ve secured this much-welcome grant towards the improvements identified following community engagement.”
Elaine Hayes, from Lake Tidy Teams, has added:
“This grant highlights the difference that our dedicated team of volunteers have already made to the Public Realm of the Parish, with New Road and the War Memorial being locations maintained and looked after by volunteers, with the support of the Parish Council.”
The Parish Council has also invested in improvements at Manor Road Playpark, a water refilling station at Lake Cliff Gardens and the provision of a new defibrillator in recent months.
Further projects are planned at Fairway Park, while the Council says it will continue supporting schemes put forward by Lake Tidy Teams and Men in Sheds.
Councillor Brading said the work was helping maintain momentum in the parish, with local residents placed at the heart of decision-making and projects being delivered in partnership with community groups.
