Ventnor beach has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent weeks as the geological process of longshore drift has exposed previously hidden steps and the remnants of the old pier.
The process happens periodically after a sustained period of wind coming from a certain direction – in this instance from the East, pushing sand and sediment to the Spyglass end of the beach.

Long-time residents will remember previous times when this has occurred but it is a novel experience for some newcomers who have expressed surprise at the presence of parts of the old pier beneath the sands.
It is actually 1 of 4 piers that have graced Ventnor over the years with the last 1 demolished in 1993.

Thanks Echo for the explanation of the ‘stunned’ residents appearance in Ventnor.
We always assumed it was too much dope, crack heroin, coke or just befuddled by years of over indulgence in alcohol after being overly funded to breed more clones to keep the ‘way of life’ alive for the next generation to support.
Now it turns out just to have been the shock their beach is moved up the road a bit.
Yet I thought they would be ‘used’ to such, as often their homes slide down the hill a little necessitating a house number change every so often.
Well placed Gabion cages would likely have prevented this and saved the residents from being stunned, least till the cops Tazer them for dealing and resisting arrest.
