The Wight Brainy Bunch’s inaugural Fire Engine Pull will take over Newport Quay this Saturday (25th July), with dozens of teams set to test their strength in aid of Islanders affected by brain tumours.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the charity launched the unique fundraising challenge earlier this year, inviting teams of 10 to compete to pull an 18-tonne Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service fire engine 50 metres in the fastest possible time.
The event has attracted teams from across the Isle of Wight, including fitness groups, community organisations, local businesses and groups of friends, all raising money for the Wight Brainy Bunch.
Those not taking part are being encouraged to head along to Newport Quay to cheer on the competitors and enjoy a full day of family entertainment between 10:00 and 17:00.
The Isle of Wight Highland Pipes & Drums will lead out the first team at 11:00, with live music from the Corinne Atkins Band, X-Directory, The Geckos and other local acts throughout the day. There will also be inflatables for children, local stalls, food vendors and a licensed bar.

The Wight Brainy Bunch provides practical, emotional and financial support to Isle of Wight families affected by brain tumours, with all funds raised from Saturday’s event going directly towards helping those living with the diagnosis.
