Members of the Shanklin Hotel & Accommodation Association (SHAA) committee met with the volunteers of Age Concern Shanklin last Tuesday to hand over a cheque donation.
£500 has been raised from the annual SHAA dinner and dance prize draw raffle back in February this year.
These much needed funds will help to refurbish and enlarge the existing wash room facilities and create an additional disabled toilet at their premises in Regent Street.
Sally Beston, SHAA Chairman said:
“She was delighted to present the cheque over to Heather Whitchurch from Age Concern on behalf of the SHAA committee and members”.
Age Concern is an independent organisation for the over 50’s. It operates as a day centre, offering snacks, refreshments and hot lunches 3 days a week, chair aerobics, social events, bingo and other organised events.
An afternoon tea has been organised to celebrate the Royal Wedding later this month. Other services include a mini-bus which is used for Sunday church runs, shopping, outings, theatre trips and mainland visits.
The Shanklin Hotel & Accommodation Association (SHAA) was first formed in 1935, it is currently the only surviving accommodation association of its kind on the Isle of Wight. The current committee members are made up of Hoteliers & all serve SHAA members on a voluntary basis.
