A public consultation is underway on guidance to improve residents’ parking on the Island.
The Isle of Wight Council is asking Islanders for their views on the draft policy to request resident parking schemes.
The aim of resident parking zones is to improve parking conditions for local residents and already exist in various areas across the Island. However, there is currently no policy or guidance for dealing with requests for new schemes and your thoughts will help inform that.
Councillor Ian Ward, Cabinet member for infrastructure and transport said:
“It is important that, as far as possible, the guidance reflects the views of residents and we therefore encourage you to complete the online survey and provide your views on the draft guidance.
“The aim of resident parking schemes is to help residents who experience parking difficulties along their street. This is mostly caused by non-residents parking their cars in the area when shopping, commuting or visiting other local attractions.
“Resident parking zones can solve many of these problems and so we need a clear and simple policy that sets out how you go about requesting a zone to be considered for your street.”
The council has prepared draft guidance for the introduction of resident parking schemes (RPS) which, when finalised, will clearly set out the process to request an RPS, the criteria for establishing the demand and ensuring that zones only proceed where they will deliver a benefit for residents.
