The annual Rookley Village Show will take place this coming Saturday (16th July), with the sounds of marching bands, fiddle groups, Egyptian dancers and Morris dancers filling the the Village Hall and Sports Field at Highwood Lane from midday onwards.
Long regarded by many as the best traditional village event on the Island, the Punch and Judy Show, children’s entertainment, egg and spoon and other races are greeted with great enthusiasm. Add to this the spectacle of a bird of prey flying demonstration, vintage vehicles of all shapes, sizes and ages, a bouncy castle and a wide variety of stalls and you have a great afternoon all for just £3 for an adult, with children and car parking both free of charge.
The numerous entries into the horticultural classes always provide a wonderful display in the marquee. Tea and cake will be available in the Village Hall with burgers and a beer tent also on offer.
Tim Marshall, Chairman, said:
“In this age of computer games, theme parks and sophisticated amusement it is heartening to see just how much enthusiasm there still is for simple, traditional family entertainment. Long may it last”.
