Level crossings that had been closed in order for railway improvement work to continue have now reopened, according to the Isle of Wight Council.
South Western Railway has officially reopened all of the crossings as work has now progressed to one of the final stages and the need to secure the track crossings from members of the public has now gone.
As previously reported by Island Echo, railway crossings up and down the line between Ryde and Shanklin were closed for a number of weeks, sparking disdain from residents affected by lengthy diversions and disruptions to their routines.
Luckily, the reopening of the crossings means all of the affected footpaths can be used once more.
It’s still unknown when exactly the railway will once again become operational, with the original improvement work schedule now dragging on far from its 3-month anticipated target.
