The Island Life Craft Brewery is getting closer to opening its 1st public location on Clarence Road in East Cowes.
As previously reported by Island Echo, a licence was approved earlier in the year for the craft ale brewery to serve alcohol but now it must clear the final hurdle in getting planning permission to officially open.
It currently operates from the back room of a house further down Clarence Road but is looking to expand into what used to be an old bric-a-brac store, the Old Curiosity Shop.
For it to open, permission needs to be granted by the Isle of Wight Council to turn it from retail use into an ale house.
The brewery’s owner, Glenn Johnson, has previously said he would like to refit the shop space, featuring wood and exposed brick, with ‘stylish’ industrial lighting.
Environmental health officers have requested details of sound insulation works be submitted for the building, so residents in the flats above and near the bar are not disturbed.
You can view the plans, 23/01677/FUL, on the Isle of Wight Council’s planning register. Comments can be submitted until 17th November.

We should hope that any transformation will not detract from the character of the parent building – I believe the officers’ quarters for Albany Barracks down the road, for Queen Victoria’s guard.
And please notice and preserve the advert for “dry” batteries above what was Bruce’s Radio Shop, a great improvement over having to carry wet cells down to the shop to be recharged.
Are they running a passenger launch to its front door?
Good luck,hope all goes well
