Police have seized a van in Freshwater for being driven whilst SORN this morning (Sunday).
Officers stopped the vehicle, a white van, on Stroud Road in the village.
As a result of the vehicle being declared ‘off the road’, it was seized by Police and recovered by Stag Lane Motors.
Release of the vehicle from storage will only be granted once the driver has got all their vehicle documentation in order.
They were forced to find alternative transport to their destination.

So many vehicles driving around the Island with NO MOT
It’s about time something was done.
I think it’s terrible.
With ANPR cameras you just can’t get away with doing things like this.
The big loophole is banned drivers who drive a vehicle registered to someone else because it just checks the registered keepers license.
But they ARE getting away with it – as reported here and elsewhere daily, but only caught when stopped for some other reason.
It must be a piece of cake to automate ANPR with DVLA look-up and flag offending vehicles. Then they can be tracked by ANPR cameras and intercepted at the Plods’ convenience. So why isn’t it happening?
I guess because most of the plod cars on the IOW don’t have ANPR…
And they drive cloned car’s alot as a holiday destination it’s not unusual for car’s driving around with mainland details. Easy to do for any make now days that you can check DVLA and Insurance to find legal ones.
So true.
The Island is run by Dinosaurs, they don’t know what ANPR is!
Then when caught, that ‘other person’ will be in a spot of bother…
If and when the stopped driver produces the correct paperwork to reclaim the vehicle who pays for the cost of the stag lane bill???
Owner of the car/van as there is a fine/recovery cost to pay, to go with the non SORN.
If it was declared SORN then no MOT or Tax and any insurance cover that may have been taken would have been invalid and it should not be on the public highway .
Well done.surprised this happened on a sun weekend but its always good too rid these menaces
Why does I E call Freshwater a town when it is only a village ok its big but still a village ?
Imagine all the people
The owner of that vehicle was always saying he don’t pay for insurance/mot glad he’s off the road now better check his other vehicles?????
