Police and firefighters from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at a road traffic collision on a major road in Ryde this afternoon (Saturday).
The incident occurred on Marlborough Road at around 13:15 and has seen a blue BMW 1-Series collide with a silver Toyota Corolla at a pedestrian crossing just outside the High Park Tavern.
A 3rd vehicle, a parked blue Ford, has also been involved but the vehicle has not required recovery. It’s thought the silver Toyota crashed into the Ford, then swerved into the path of the oncoming BMW.
The road is blocked between Somerset Road and Amherst Place whilst recovery of the vehicles by Bartletts is arranged.
Motorists travelling in the area are currently having to divert locally via Somerset Road and High Park Road.
Police are sweeping debris off the carriageway and expect to re-open the road once recovery of the BMW and Toyota is complete.
No serious injuries have been reported, including to a young child travelling in the BMW.
UPDATE @ 16:00 – The road has been fully reopened.

Drug driving drug driving
Or could be careless driving with one coming out of the road by the High Park Tavern and colliding with the other on the main road. Who knows until more information comes through. No mention of any injuries resulting in a visit to St Mary’s thank Christ.
The crash was in fact on the pdestrian crossing and not outside the P H
Give me 1 all 2 all 3
Idiot boy racer cars with no brains.
Why always go on about emergency services, I am sure long before any arrived, members of the public were on scene looking after casualties, directing traffic etc these good Samaritans need some credit too please.
Why do we have so many idiots on the island roads???????.
Why so many idiots commenting here!
Because the jails are filled with the world’s dross as well as our own, so NO meaningful sentences can ever again be given for anything but the very worst crimes now.
As the UK is known for a tolerant, read weak, decent, read gullible society, as word spreads via internet and phones, then the situation, as we see, will only ever get worse.
The Police have a huge white camera van, placed in the Seafront road at Sandown, the most straight road ever, with, at this time of year, few pedestrians, few side roads feed onto it, and everyone in both directions flash the oncoming cars, as hate of the law is preferred to catching speeders here.
IF the Police did a test, with a hidden Camera the capture rate would be 100 fold, min.
Totally agree and some of the fines imposed would also go towards funding the Hampshire police force, I say Hampshire as sometimes I do wonder if there are any on IoW even though we are charged every year with Tax increase.
It appears that people have incorrectly jumped in with assumptions on what has happened.
The facts are they were both female drivers, a 3rd car was involved. The silver car swerved to dodge a parked black car into the BMW.
Silver car had two females, BMW had mother and child.
black car suffered no damage and left scene after statments were taken.
Mother and child, one of the struggling and classed as in ‘poverty’ then as the BMW wasn’t ‘brand new’.
I am the mother who was driving the car. I work full time to provide for my family, who said anything about poverty and us struggling?! Because quite frankly I am not struggling nor in poverty. Silly people always so so quick to judge.
Glad that you didn’t suffer any injuries. Accidents happen, the hang ’em high brigade always know better and can’t resist commenting and apportioning blame.
Dodging a… parked car?
Then we’re right, bad driving
Careful when driving along Great Preston Road Ryde
Due to vehicles parking on both sides of the Road outside the
Council Houses
Great Preston Road is very dangerous
Ah the gutless too afraid to confront the builder trying to get other people to do so via snide comments. He pays your benefits remember by working.
That’s a job for plod, they are paid to confront lowlifes.
Must be backward otherwise he would understand the Highway Code.
Many builders I have come across over the years don’t declare all their
earnings, so you may be wrong.
Where as many benefit claimers have paid into the system whilst working,
obviously there are some who have never done a days work in their life
(But that’s another story)
I cannot speak for the builder you are referring too, just many builders I know.
Many of them loved the Payout they received from the chancellor.
Think they park there to slow traffic down because everyone drives like twats along there and it works so think before you speak
I thought it was because they are idiots who don’t know what pavements are used for.
I suggest they sit down and read the Highway Code, that’s if they can read.
I’m not blind
A straight road yet they crash into each other?????? DOH.
Most people can drive blindfolded steering with their tongues better than that
The way the traffic builds up at McDonalds in Ryde, a similar accident will take place
McDonald’s Ryde most dangerous McDonalds drive thru in UK
Road Safety does not exist on the Island.
Why no one controls traffic on the Island I don’t know.
No one seems to care about Safety
Approaching Cowes, that Range shop is deadly as well.
Yes, they really need an entry plus an exit further down th eroad. Plenty of room
in their car park. Also the junction at Three Gates Road & Place Rd is deadly! Needs a roundabout.
An Health & Safety Inspector would shut this DANGEROUS establishment down!!
I think everyone needs to retake their test every year! So many drugged up or drunk drivers about, they all just need to drive like a muppet off a cliff and do us all a favor. Lol
Take test every year, would that stop drugged up and drunk driving?
It’s a start, plus the police are way too soft, anyone or drinks and drives or is drugged up while driving needs to be banned, no points, no warning….life time ban! Simple as that. Lol
IW Council need to employ islandwide patrols that cover the whole Island and
Tow away any vehicles parked where they shouldn’t be parked
Eg on Pavements, Double Yellow lines and Zig Zags etc.
Vans should not be allowed to clog up island roads blocking visability for other motorists
& pedestrians.
The council should make such vehicles park in designated areas and pay a fee,
alternatively they should be left on site.
What will pay for this is permit parking islandwide, some households have more vehicles to
a property than actual people.
Make island roads safe for everyone.
Women drivers, what more can I say?
If they were drunk then I hope the pathetic loser suffers.
