The Isle of Wight Council’s planning committee last night (Tuesday) approved plans for a new holiday park at Brading Marsh between Brading and St Helens.
60 lodges are set to be built on 13 hectares of land off Carpenter’s Road, which was once earmarked to become a golf course.
As well as holiday accommodation there will be an RSPB visitor centre and the RPSB will be gifted a total of 42 hectares for use as a nature reserve. Earlier this month Island Echo reported on the first record of a bittern booming on the Isle of Wight at Brading.
In total more than 300 objections were lodged against the plans, but the Council unanimously voted to approve the scheme when the committee met at County Hall.
Those staying at the holiday village will be limited to a maximum stay of 6 weeks and the lodges will not be opened until the RSPB visitor centre is complete.
