Island Roads are currently out gritting the roads across the Island this afternoon (Monday).
A secondary topping-up will take place tomorrow (Tuesday) at 04:00.
Gritters have been out and about on the Island since 16th January with approximately 324 tonnes of salt deposited onto the road in that time.
Island Roads has urged motorists to be careful on the roads, even those that have already been treated.

Whoop dee doo Basil……
It’s winter so what do they expect??
At £38.50 per ton that’s a whopping £12,474 in just road salt that does not include driver’s wages and fuel..
They’re peppering the roads with it!
And? Do we not pay over the top for this council service?
on top of the councillors OTT pay and expenses!
Thank you Gritter drivers
Its winter, give them a medal. Not rocket science. Complain if its too hot , too cold too icy , too warm , too wet, too windy , too foggy .not enough rain too mild a winter .
There was a notice early on in the year that the Council had purchased more than enough grit for a bad winter, as we haven’t reached February yet I hope the then printed article was correct as I fear Feb/March will be much worse.
All of that salt enters groundwater and water bodies with consequences for the environment, water sources, and agriculture. Applying brine solution can reduce the amount of salt applied by 75% and it is more effective at preventing accidents.
