Romsey-based Onetwenty Motorsports is the latest company to back Island Speedway, which is hoping racing will return to Smallbrook Stadium later this year.
The company which sells all sorts of Motocross spares, clothing and safety equipment is led by brothers James and George Purchase and is very keen to get more involved.
Barry Bishop from Island Speedway Said:
“It’s great to have James and George supporting us. Onetwenty have a big following in Motocross and
are now keen to get more active in speedway. The brothers are well versed with speedway and are accomplished riders on Motocross and Speedway.“One way in which Onetwenty Motorsports will be helping the club is supplying the riding school with kit and safety gear. With their shop just across the Solent we hope that they will be joining us on training days and encouraging some of the motocross riders to come and try their hand at speedway.
“Although I have known the brothers for many years, it’s thanks to Dave Stevens from SBS EPOS for making the connection via the Island Speedway Business Club.”
James Purchase said:
“It’s great news that speedway is returning to the Island and we are happy Onetwenty Motorsports can help to achieve this.
“We are getting more involved with speedway now, supplying helmets, gloves, goggles and protection equipment to many riders and have sponsored quite a few this year. Darcy Ward, Davey Watt, Dakota North and Josh Grajczonek to name just a few.
“You might even see me back on a speedway bike in the not too distant future and I aim to attend the speedway school on the island as much as I can.”
Onetwenty Motorsports is not the only company to pledge their support for Island Speedway this week – Gary Ball Racing Ltd will be sponsoring both riders and club in the coming seasons.
The Leighton Buzzard-based company has all sorts of speedway and grasstrack kit from frames to Forcefield undersuits and back protectors to Point-two air jackets (as worn by Robert Lambert and Ollie Greenwood etc) for rider safety.
Barry Bishop said:
“I have known Gary for many years and we often used to compete against each other on the Speedway although Gary probably spent more time back then on the Grass in both sidecars and solo categories. We’ve always kept in touch over the years and Gary really became interested in Island Speedway, even attending our fans forum.
“Gary and I looked at various options where he could support our team riders but I am really looking forward to him helping at My First Skid when his diary allows and once more take to the track.”
