A new shop selling a mixture of wine and art has opened on Seaview High Street, just in time for the busy summer season.
The Halland Gallery and Wine Shop is run by Seaview resident and renowned photographer Chris Jelf, alongside his partner Harriet Hadfield.
Now fully stocked with a good selection of wine, The Halland is hoping to draw long-term customers in from across the East Wight, while making the most of the high summer holiday season in Seaview over the next 2 months.
Alongside the wine shop, the art gallery features a blend of work by UK artists for sale, with a combination of traditional techniques and bold contemporary paintings – plus some photographic prints by the owner.
Island artists showing in the exhibition include abstract painters Freya Purdue and Tim Fawcett, ceramicist Wendy Hayden and wood sculptor Paul Chapman; with work by seascapes artist Richard White – who has a lifelong association with the Island.
Chris Jelf has lived on the Island for the past 3 years and is a well-known ‘society wedding’ photographer, who has also photographed the royal family on numerous occasions.
Chris says:
“I’m really excited to open this season, combining my 2 great passions – wine and art! Our core high season opening hours will be 12:00 until 19:00 – and often later into the evening.”
“We’d love to meet new customers and will feature a ‘wine of the day’ to try before you buy for £6 a glass – to enjoy in the evening sunshine on our benches outside the gallery on Seaview High Street.”
