Sun, sea and more beach huts? Plans to add to the offering on Sandown Esplanade have been unveiled.
Central Beach has asked the Isle of Wight Council for permission to add eight more at their site near the pier as rental demand has grown over the last few years.
They would sit on the beach opposite Premier Inn and the now derelict Ocean Hotel and be in the same familiar blue colour and traditional style as the two existing huts.
Central Beach say the huts are designed to sustain the look and feel of a traditional seaside tourist resort.
Planning documents say the huts would not interfere with the views from the Premier Inn but in the case of run-down Ocean Hotel, would add to the character and style of that stretch of beach.
The additional huts, the company says, will not negatively impact the environment as the beach has plenty of room for the temporary structures.
The huts would be removed during the winter when the weather changes and there is a higher flood risk.
The section of the beach the huts is on, Central Beach lease from the council and they say it is in their interest to ensure the huts are well kept and attractive to the public.

If they can be rented for the day and not be monopolised by one renter for the whole season then these are great.
Who on Earth would want to use a garden shed to enjoy a derelict area. Is that what is called living the high life.
Drove past there today.
Some right dodgy looking people on a bench near this location.
Looks like somebody has got his imperial measurements wrong. Should stick to metric like any sensible person (does not include Kippers)
They could have the 16 of the 20 sheds at Colwell Bay that the council could never rent out! Which non of us are surprised at at those extortionate rates! More tax payers money wasted by some bright spark who clearly never did their home work properly!
Hope they make them with sustainable wood or even the new long life composite to last longer and stay fresher looking
You mean that cement board cladding also known as hardie panels. That stuff should be banned, and probably will be when enough people die from inhaling it and developing silicoses. Just as asbestos was seen as ok for generations now seen as the devil product. Long life for the product sure, but not for the people breathing it’s dust.
With all the crime in Sandown CCTV is a must.
Could be a disaster waiting to happen
