MIND SET – a groundbreaking pilot project fusing music, theatre, and mental health awareness – is sparking conversations about the challenges of neurodiversity and mental health among young individuals.
The project – run by Theatre Educational in conjunction with Sovereign Housing – leverages music and performance to engage and inspire young people 11 years plus, fostering mental resilience and well-being in a creative and collaborative atmosphere. Over the course of 10 weekly sessions, MIND SET invites young people aged 11 and above to explore the complex terrain of mental resilience and well-being. Through a creative process that includes theatre, scriptwriting, and music technology, participants will embark on an exploration of their own experiences, the stigma associated with neurodiversity, and the inequalities tied to mental health. MIND SET seeks to create original musical theatre, set in the backdrop of an isolated island community. This musical will reflect the lived experiences of the young people who are part of this initiative. The creative workshops will encourage them to see the world through their unique perspectives and those of their families. However, MIND SET is more than a musical project; it’s an educational endeavour that seeks to challenge stereotypes, eradicate stigmas, and break down the societal barriers that restrict young people with neurodiversity and mental health challenges The 1st session of MIND SET will be held at Oakfield Primary School on Wednesday 15th November, from 17:00 to 19:00.
