Ryde’s Michael Ward is hoping to raise £4,000 for the Isle of Wight’s Mountbatten Hospice by cycling an incredible 4,000 miles.
Michael, a keen amateur cyclist, has already completed over 2,000 miles in the saddle and by the end of the challenge expects to have completed a total of 430 hours.
The current situation for charities caused by the coronavirus pandemic has spurred Michael to fundraise for a very worthy cause.
Michael says:
“As you are all aware it is a challenging time for all charities and community organisations
“I am sure that many of us have had family and friends who have had to utilise the services of Mountbatten Hospice and therefore will fully appreciate the valuable service given by them at the critical times for their patients.
“Unfortunately, this year they have had to cancel Walk the Wight which would normally bring in a minimum of £250,000. Additional to this, all of their charity shops are closed and therefore no revenue is being received, which i expect would be a combined loss of over £1million”.
By the end of his challenge, Michael will have cycled the equivalent of 62 times around the Isle of Wight.

Michael’s charity challenge is being sponsored by Wight Mountain and supported by Yorkshire Building Society, AMW Carpentry & Installations, Hidden Beauty Tattoo Studio and East Cowes Laundrette.
