Flying doctors, paramedics and firefighters have rushed to Wootton this morning (Friday) amid an ongoing medical emergency in the village.
It was at around 07:00 that 999 calls alerting emergency crews to an ongoing incident on Palmers Road were first made.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service quickly dispatched a duo of ambulances and a paramedic car to the scene.
Paramedics have been joined by a pair of pumping appliances from Ryde Fire Station – including the aerial ladder platform (ALP).
Such is the situation, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) has been scrambled to the scene from its Southampton Airport base, landing in a field off Palmers Road at around 07:45.
Palmers Road is currently blocked at its junction with Church Road. It remains to be seen how long the road will be closed for.
UPDATE @ 08:56 – The air ambulance has lifted off from Wootton, transferring the patient directly to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was involved in a similar mission during the early hours of this morning. The helicopter touched down at Oakwood Park in Haylands, later transferring a patient to the Queen Alexandra.
