Audiences were left inspired and entertained as students from The Bay CE School’s secondary site took to the stage for a pair outstanding performances of Fame Jr. on 9th and 10th July.
The production showcased the exceptional talent, dedication and teamwork of students, who brought the iconic musical to life through energetic performances, impressive choreography and memorable musical numbers.
Based on the iconic film and television series, Fame Jr. follows a group of young performers as they navigate the challenges and triumphs of life at New York City’s renowned High School for the Performing Arts. Packed with unforgettable songs, energetic choreography, and heartfelt moments, the production highlights the importance of perseverance, teamwork, and believing in yourself.
Isle of Wight Theatre reviewed the production;
“Rebecca M, Eloise B, Rosie-Mae H. and Jacob E carried off their roles as the teachers with confidence.
“Mary S portrayed the student Carmen Diaz who left the Arts School after the second year to follow her dream and become famous. Mary was excellent with great stage presence and a fabulous singing voice. She worked well with Jessie H playing musician Schlomo Metzenbaum who wrote the music that Carmen put lyrics too. Their interaction was very good.”
Director Mr J Alabaster praised the cast for their commitment throughout the rehearsal process.
“At its heart, Fame Jr. is about friendship, ambition, resilience, and discovering that success comes through hard work, determination and believing in yourself. These themes have been reflected throughout our rehearsal process, where every cast member has embraced new challenges and supported one another every step of the way.

The production was directed by Mr J Alabaster (Director), Miss C Gaunt (Assistant Director), produced by Mrs L Creggwood and musically directed by Mr F Griffiths. Choreography was created by Mr J Alabaster alongside student choreographers Harriet J, Scarlett W and Martha K, whose creativity and leadership helped bring the show’s dynamic dance routines to life.
Audience members were full of praise following the performances, with comments including:

The production was a wonderful celebration of the performing arts and reflected the confidence, creativity and determination of The Bay CE School’s students. Congratulations to everyone involved, both on stage and behind the scenes.
