A 57-year-old Ryde man arrested after several blocks of cocaine were found at The Pepperpot last October, has been released with no further action.
It was on the morning of the 15th October that a member of the public alerted Police to finding 2 suspicious packages – believed to be cocaine – washed up on the beach at Chale some 2 days prior, on Friday 13th October.
Based on the information provided, officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were deployed to St Catherine’s Down, near the viewpoint car park at Blackgang, where a male led officers up towards St Catherine’s Oratory.
5 officers accompanying the first informant discovered packages of suspected Class A drugs that are thought to have been hidden in the countryside. An Armed Response Vehicle from the mainland with a further 2 officers arrived a short time later.
Following an initial investigation, it was suspected by the attending officers that the packages had been opened and moved before the Police had been called. As a result, a 57-year-old man from Ryde was arrested for being concerned in the supply of drugs.
The man was originally bailed until January 2024 before then being released under investigation, however Island Echo can now reveal that the investigation has been filed and the man has been released with no further action.
