4-year-old Cassie Nunn from Shanklin has won the Isle of Wight Red Squirrel Trust’s ‘Name the Red Squirrel’ competition. The competition was popular with the children, all 12 years old and under, with over 40 picking a name. Goldie is the name chosen by randomised selection for the new red squirrel mascot, made by Bernie. The name was chosen by 4-year-old Cassie, who said she chose ‘Goldie’ because squirrels have golden hair like her. She likes exploring the woods and finding wildflowers. Cassie goes to Nettlestone preschool where she has been busy learning about bees and loves playing outside and jumping in puddles. Cassie also likes reading, swimming, gymnastics and Irish dancing. The pictures of Cassie were taken at The IOW Red Squirrel Trust Bluebell Day at the end of April. Helen Butler MBE, IOW Red Squirrel Trust chair, says:
“Goldie is a good name for the mascot and Cassie is a delightfully cheerful little girl.”
The prize included a red squirrel soft toy, a book, a cushion, a red squirrel necklace, pencil and notebook.
That’s so sweet, lovely to have some nice news on here as well. Lovely to hear a nice story and what a great name. We’ll done
Red squirrels usually have red hair (sometimes brownish red). The clue is in the name.
She’s four!
What a arsehole….. she’s a little girl she can choose the colour if she wanted a blue name she could!!
Really? Education is better than delusion. Newsflash: there are no blue squirrels on the island (or gold ones).
What a beautiful picture. Well chosen Cassie !
Hopefully they haven’t allowed the individual to return to the Island to carry on his dealings and intimadation!.
How is the dog doing?
So many druggie Caulkheads doing harm to people
with drugs, needs banging up.
I hope the dog has been taken into care and will very rehomed with responsible owners.
