Evie Bennett and Arthur Wrigley, students from Lift Ryde, are celebrating success after the Isle of Wight Youth MP elections.
A total of 4 candidates took part in the election, each developing their own manifesto and working hard to engage young people on key issues. Among them were Evie (Year 10) and Arthur (Year 8), who both ran highly visible and energetic campaigns.
The pair promoted their ideas through posters, speaking in school assemblies, and even appearing on the 6th Form Sounds student podcast, helping to reach students across a wide audience.
After votes were cast by young people across the Isle of Wight, Evie Bennett was announced as the successful Youth MP, with Arthur Wrigley finishing in 2nd place and taking on the role of Deputy Youth MP.
In their new positions, Evie and Arthur will represent the views of young people across the island, raising awareness of key issues and working to make a positive difference in their communities.
The announcement came shortly before both students visited Parliament as part of a Lift Ryde school trip, where they were able to see first-hand how political decisions are made and the opportunities available to them in the future.
The school praised both students for their efforts, highlighting their commitment, confidence, and passion throughout the campaign process.
The election – which comes just weeks before the Isle of Wight goes to the polls for the Local Elections – has been widely seen as a positive example of student voice in action, with all candidates demonstrating dedication to representing young people and contributing to their local community.
