Cowes Sports have risen to 4th place in the Wessex Premier by trouncing Blackfield & Langley 6-1 at Westwood Park this afternoon (Saturday 2nd September).
This was the 2nd time the Yachtsmen had struck 6 goals in 4 days, having already disposed of Whitchurch United 2-6 on Wednesday evening.
Cowes started the game on the front foot with the lively Connor Kelly sending a low shot across the face of the goal and into the net in the 5th minute (1-0).
4 minutes later, Scott Barron headed the ball past the Blackfield keeper to double the home side’s advantage (2-0).
On the quarter hour mark, the visitors pulled a goal back against the run of play through their new signing Ethan Cheshire (2-1).
The Yachtsmen were unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty in the 21st minute when the linesman flagged for handball, but was overruled by the referee.

Cowes had numerous opportunities to extend their lead during the remainder of the half with George Carter-Knight shooting over in the 28th, George Colson heading just over in the 33rd and then having a shot deflected past the post. 5 minutes before the half time whistle, Fin Phillips forced the Blackfield keeper to parry at full stretch and Carter-Knight just failed to put the spilled ball into the goal.

The 2nd half began with further missed chances for Cowes with George Carter-Knight and Jez Conway both seeing goal attempts go narrowly wide.

The game was transformed when John McKie came on for George Carter Knight shortly before the hour mark. A minute after entering the field of play, McKie turned a defender on the dead ball line before passing to Jez Conway, who smashed the ball into the back of the net from 10 yards (3-1).
60 seconds later, McKie scored a brilliant individual goal when he received the ball 40 yards from the goal, rode an attempted foul, before blasting the ball past the Blackfield keeper from the edge of the penalty area (4-1).

McKie hadn’t finished his impressive cameo performance. In the 79th minute, he again ran towards goal from a tight angle before crossing to Eli Ahmed who converted the chance from 5 yards (5-1).
Substitute Scott McFarlane added a 6th in the 82nd minute with a superb strike from range (6-1)
McKie was unlucky not to have scored a brace when his shot hit the post in the 85th,
