A 26.2 mile night marathon through the New Forest, a 7-mile Kayak to the Isle of Wight and then a 100km cycle around the Island – all in 24 hours. That’s the challenge being undertaken by supporters of The Courage Foundation.
The Courage Foundation was set up by Tony And Ruth Palmer of Chandlers Ford after the unexpected death of their young son, Jethro, in 2015. The charity provides support to bereaved children after the death of a brother, sister or parent.
The team of Dave Roberts, Tony Palmer, Steve Beer, Gray Forward, Jim Wicks and Darren Campbell will set off from the Rockingham Arms pub in West Wellow, Hampshire at 20:00 on 22nd June. They will make their way through the night to Keyhaven Marina where they will then begin their kayak to the Island at 07:00 on 23rd June. Landing at Alum Bay, the team will swap to their bicycles at around midday to complete a 100km cycle, ending up at East Cowes at 20:00.
Ruth says:
“The hope of our charity is to give children permission to be happy again after the death or a close relative. There are thousands of families in the UK facing these toughest of times and we love to support as may of them as possible”.
Tony is taking part in the Courage Foundation Triathlon in an effort to raise £10,000 for the charity. Tony is understandably nervous about the triathlon challenge…
“We’ve all trained hard but we’ll be pushing ourselves to limits we’ve never been before. I just hope that it has a big impact and inspires people to donate generously to the charity so we can support many more families”.
