The Isle of Wight College is excited to announce that it has been awarded funding from the Department for Education (DfE) which will help the college grow and further develop its existing higher education offer.
This successful bid also builds on the college’s recent success in securing permission from the DfE to use the brand title “University Centre, Isle of Wight”.
The objective of the Higher Technical Education Provider Growth Fund is to build and create additional capacity to grow high quality provision and raise the prestige of approved Higher Technical Qualifications amongst learners and employers.
Principal of The Isle of Wight College, Debbie Lavin CBE, commented:
“The funding secured through this bid will enable the college to strengthen its existing good relations with employers. We are looking forward to launching the first Higher Technical Qualification in Digital, with the first intake for software developers, from September 2023.”
The government has expressed its commitment and determination to reform Higher Technical Education, which in turn will support the Isle of Wight College in enabling learners to achieve the skills they need to strengthen the UK’s economy.
Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson said:
“We also want to counter the myth that a degree is the only way to a good job. This funding will help open up more high-quality training alternatives for people, empowering them to get the skills they need to build the life they want, wherever they live.”
This is excellent news. The island has some amazing IT companies on it’s shores, if done well the island could be the university mecca for software developers.
